THE SKILLION IS A STEEP CLIFFTOP LOOKOUT TOWERING OVER THE OCEAN AT TERRIGAL. IT’S ALSO ONE OF THE MOST INSTAGRAMMABLE SPOTS ON THE CENTRAL COAST.
The coastline around Sydney is dotted with some spectacular geological landmarks, but few stand out quite like the Skillion.
This curious headland, about 90 minutes by car from Sydney, is found at the southern end of Terrigal Beach and was formed in the Middle Triassic.
The sedimentary rock formation is dubbed the Skillion because of the way it slopes like a skillion pitched roof.
From the base it’s about 150 metres to the top where you’ll find a fenced lookout with sweeping views of Terrigal and the ocean. It’s an easy climb on dedicated stairs.
The famous rock formation is one of the most-photographed landmarks on the Central Coast and is popular with Instagrammers, walkers and anglers.
But like The Gap in Sydney, the Skillion has a dark side.
The headland is a notorious suicide hot spot, prompting authorities to fence off the lookout and post suicide prevention signs around the location.
